A Place Prepared For You

There are three empty houses in our life right now. Well, technically, none of them are empty. We left an empty house in Illinois, but it has since been filled up by its new owners.

There is an empty house in Texas that we will begin filling up tomorrow.

And there is a house in heaven that is in the process of being filled up.

“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” – John 12:2-3 NIV

It is fun to think about the house that Jesus is preparing for believers in heaven. I wonder what it will be like! The Bible tells us that it is impossible to imagine what Jesus has prepared for us there. If we try to think of the most amazing, spectacular, awesome place, we can rest assured that it will be more than that! There is nothing on earth that can compare.

However, not everyone will get to experience living with Jesus in heaven. In order to move in with Jesus in eternity you must first invite Him into your house in this life – invite Him into your heart – invite Him into your life.

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” – Revelation 3:20

Jesus wants to come into your life and be your Savior. He wants to have a relationship with you; to be your friend, to eat with you, to live with you, to talk with you, to bear your burdens and carry your fears. Jesus waits to be invited in; He will not come in uninvited. Have you invited Him in? Will you invite Him in?

Some of us may want to invite Jesus in, but we don’t because we know it would be too much work to clean house first. It’s too hard to clean up the bad habits. It’s too much work to try to be good all the time. It’s too time consuming to do all the things that we see other Christians doing.

Since we don’t have the tools, the time, or the energy to do that much work, we decide it’s just not worth it. God knew that we would never be able to make ourselves ready for Jesus, so God made Jesus ready for us.

“You see, at just the right time, when we were powerless, Christ died for the ungodly …While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:6, 8 NIV

Amazingly, Jesus is waiting to be invited in, and He wants to come into your house just as it is! He will not condemn you because of your messy life or your failures, or your poor decisions, or your addictions. Jesus doesn’t want to be invited in to condemn you, He waits to be invited in to save you.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” – John 3:17-18

Will you trust that Jesus is preparing a room for you? Will you invite Him to live with you today so that you will have a place with Him for all eternity? Will you invite Him into your messy life so that He can work with you to clean it up?

Our home on earth will never match what our home in heaven will be. But until we move into that home, we are ready to begin filling our empty Texas house with Christ’s love.

Wow! What a perfect illustration and visual. It’s a simple message but not an easy one for many people, those who will not humble themselves and walk through the One Door God has provided, His Only begotten Son Jesus Christ, our Savior. “Unless you turn from your sin”, Jesus said, and become like a little child, you’ll never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.” Matt. 18:2-4
