At what point does the present become the past? At what point does something that means so much to you become a part of your history and no longer a part of your future? At what point do you stop holding on and begin letting go?

Brian and I finally arrived in Texas on Sunday. We aren’t citizens of Texas yet, but we’re also not citizens of Illinois. Since I don’t really belong to a state right now, I’ve been thinking about the many facets of citizenship.

Our son placed this lunch order when he was six-years-old. We may have been playing restaurant or I might have been distracted and he was trying to get my attention at lunch time, but whatever the case, it’s unmistakable what he wanted for lunch: pop, ches sandwich, slomee, marikool wiep, and mustrde.

In preparation to move, we put our house on the market, someone liked it, and we’ve gone under contract. The next step is the home inspection.
We are ready. We disclosed everything we’re aware of. We set out a pot of fresh coffee, bottled water on ice, a plate of chocolate chip cookies and a note welcoming the inspector, the buyers and their realtor.
Then we left for the afternoon.
