Lights On for The Crucible

blog229pic2_edited-1Listen up, Christians, there are some things we need to learn about preparing our children, our leaders, and ourselves for the spiritual battles we will inevitably face and the United States Marine Corps is a really good teacher!

You may recall that I wrote about my sister’s son, Zach, leaving for boot camp last summer. Well, the next big event on his agenda is The Crucible. After watching a WGN video depicting the final events of The Crucible (watch it here) I have to say, I am praying for my nephew, and his parents, like never before!

Boogers, Cookies or Porn

I read recently that the average age for a boy’s first exposure to pornography is seven. Seven! My heart fell. My beautiful grandson just turned seven. I had to do some research; is this seven-year-old threshold for real?

Light

post221pic2When it is nap time, I sit in the dark with my little grandson, and rock him till he is drowsy, then I put him down and he falls right to sleep. However, if the blind is cracked even a little bit, he holds out, staring at the light. He has learned that light means it is time to get up! The dark is not his friend.

Removing Rocks

God’s Word is the jackhammer that is at work on the bedrock of my inner being. It has a point, and it is sharp, but it is the steady application of God’s Word that breaks away the boulders of sin, bad habits, attitudes and deeply held errors of my soul. God knows just where to place the tool, and the exact pressure to use to break the rocks of sin that have settled in my life
